Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about IVF in Switzerland.
Currently, single women are generally excluded from accessing IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in Switzerland, including the use of donor sperm.
Swiss law primarily restricts access to ART to married couples and, since July 1, 2022, to married lesbian couples. While sperm donation is permitted, it is only available to these couples, and single women are not legally permitted to utilize donor sperm for fertility treatments within the country. This often leads Swiss residents to seek treatment options abroad.
Although there are ongoing discussions regarding reforms to the Reproductive Medicine Act, as of the current legal framework, single individuals remain ineligible for ART in Switzerland, and IVF treatment is not covered by Swiss health insurance for anyone, with limited public funding available only for insemination for married couples.
