Dr. Katler and Alanna are the absolute dream team! My husband and I will forever be thankful for them. I went 14 months with no answers to our fertility struggles. If you struggle with fertility, you know at some point there’s a moment of self-blame and anger. All of those negative thoughts and concerns vanished in our first appointment. Dr. Katler immediately had a plan for testing and then again after our results for treatment. I’ve never had a doctor listen to me or explain things to me the way he did. Alanna as well! They both made this difficult/scary process a thousand times better than either of us expected. I was also fortunate to meet the SGF Marietta team. Again, everyone was so positive, encouraging, and thoughtful throughout the entire process.

Dr. Katler presents as caring — until accountability is required.

I began treatment at Shady Grove in 2024 after being told I had “plenty of time” and qualified for the shared-risk program. That representation influenced my decision to proceed.

After the loss of my full-term child at 37 weeks, I returned within a month to continue IVF planning. Over the following months, I experienced shifting requirements and delayed disclosure of eligibility limits. After approximately seven months, I was informed I no longer qualified for shared-risk due to an AMH cutoff and an age restriction under 41 — criteria not clearly disclosed when I began treatment, despite the fact that I am under 41.

The most serious concerns arose after I formally withdrew from care.

On 2/12 at 3 PM, Dr. Katler called regarding a negative review I left the day I discontinued treatment. He described a revised fertility plan and stated he had a proposal for my husband and me. The discussion then shifted to how the review affected him personally. He stated it would take him a long time to recover and that no one had ever “done this to him.” He requested that I remove the review. I deleted it after he indicated he would follow up with treatment planning. I agreed to hear him out but made clear I had already secured another physician.

On 2/13 at 3:22 PM, after I had left the practice and while my husband was in the hospital, Dr. Katler called again. The call centered on his reaction to the review rather than my treatment. I reiterated that I was not comfortable continuing care with him and had found another physician. He then stated he was too emotional to remain objective and could not continue as my doctor. The call lasted over twenty minutes and focused on his feelings about the now deleted review. I reminded him that he was the physician and I was the patient and suggested he seek appropriate support rather than continue discussing his emotional distress with me. I ended the call and returned to the hospital, where he knew my husband was.

A physician contacting a former patient to discuss personal distress about a review, requesting its removal in proximity to treatment discussion, and acknowledging inability to remain objective reflects serious lapses in professional boundaries and judgment.

I have reported this matter to Shady Grove administration and to the Georgia Composite Medical Board.

Patients deserve physicians who maintain objectivity, composure, and clear separation between personal reputation and patient care.

Shady Grove was recommended to me by several colleagues during a support group for women experiencing infertility, and I truly believe I was in the right place at exactly the right time. From the very beginning, Shady Grove became a bright light in what can often feel like an overwhelming and uncertain journey.

From our first appointment to our graduation day, every single person we encountered made a meaningful and positive impact. The compassion, professionalism, and genuine care shown by the entire team never went unnoticed. When dealing with something as emotionally and physically fragile as fertility, even one negative experience can feel devastating but at Shady Grove, we were consistently met with reassurance, empathy, and unwavering support.

Because of the dedication of this team, we felt encouraged to keep going even on the hardest days. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Katler, Julia, and the entire Sandy Springs staff for walking alongside us with such kindness and expertise.
