Last summer, after several months of trying to conceive, my family doctor referred me directly to Hannam Fertility Clinic instead of investigating further herself. The wait time was relatively short (about one month), which initially felt like a positive.
My husband and I completed all required testing. Even with OHIP and private insurance, there were significant service fees — about $600 for basic testing for two people, much of which could have been done by a family doctor or gynecologist.
The clinic itself looks modern, and the staff are polite, but the medical consultation was where things went wrong.
About a month later, we had a video appointment with Dr. Rebecca Arthur. From the first interaction, I felt she was arrogant and condescending. During our results review, she told us that both of us had excellent results, were in our early 30s, and that there was no clear medical reason for infertility. Despite this, she offered no meaningful explanation, investigation plan, or next steps.
Instead, she said — in a very dismissive tone — that while medication-based treatments exist, we could pursue those “with other doctors,” because they don’t do that there. Her recommendation was to go straight to IVF. The quoted cost was around $30,000, and she also mentioned that the funded IVF waitlist was about two years, which felt more like pressure than medical guidance.
The message felt very clear: don’t waste time, just do IVF.
We left the appointment feeling dismissed, unsupported, and treated more like customers than patients.
I later changed my family doctor, found one who actually listens, and began proper step-by-step testing to build a gynecological profile. And here is the most important part: we recently became pregnant naturally, without IVF, medications, or interventions.
My takeaway: if you are relatively young, healthy, and still early in your fertility journey, be very cautious. This clinic felt far more focused on pushing expensive procedures than on individualized care or truly understanding a woman’s body and concerns.
Fertility treatment should be compassionate, thorough, and patient-centered — not driven by fear, pressure, or business models that target desperate couples.
I sincerely wish every woman strength, clarity, and success on her journey to motherhood — but I would not recommend this clinic based on my experience.
