Multiple patients credit the clinic with successful IVF cycles, including a "miracle" baby and several live births after prolonged infertility. Positive outcomes are highlighted alongside detailed follow‑up that helped patients feel confident in their treatment plans.

  • check_circle Detailed Patient Education

What to watch out for at Duke Fertility Center?

  • warning Inconsistent Communication

Phone calls frequently go unanswered, and voicemail messages often receive delayed or no callbacks. Patients report difficulty reaching front‑desk staff, financial counselors, and nurses, leading to frustration and uncertainty about appointments.

  • warning Billing and Financial Friction

Refunds have been processed without consent, and some billing team members are described as rude. Conflicting information about insurance coverage and unexpected charges create financial stress for patients.

  • warning Limited Direct Doctor Access

Many patients encounter fellows rather than their primary physicians, resulting in minimal face‑time with the attending doctor. Some reviews note that doctors are seen only once over several months, reducing continuity of care.

  • warning Perceived Insensitivity

Certain physicians are characterized as blunt, dismissive, or lacking empathy, especially when delivering bad news or discussing sensitive topics such as age limits and surrogate policies. This perception undermines patient confidence during vulnerable moments.

After years of trying to have a baby and multiple IVF attempts at several facilities, we were finally blessed with our son. The professionalism, care, and attention to detail at Duke Fertility were unmatched, and I now understand why they are rated as a top-five clinic. I will never be able to fully express my gratitude for the incredible gift they gave our family. I only wish we had made the decision to come here sooner.

Shady practices. I would not trust this clinic with my fertility journey when they can’t even be trusted to handle billing correctly. And they do not reach out to follow up on inquiries. I was double billed for an initial visit which is illegal. I actually paid the original bill only for them to submit another claim to my secondary insurance provider where they upcoded for the same visit that was explicitly coded based on time. When I pointed out that I was doubled billed, Duke Fertility’s Billing Department said they would not only back out the second claim but refund me for the office visit due to all of the confusion. They did not honor that statement. I have called multiple times and left voicemails with no call back. They speak directly to my insurance companies but not to me and they have been dishonest about our initial communication. If the billing department is shady, I would not trust them with such a delicate process as this. Not to mention the staff are cold. It’s very difficult if not impossible to get a call back. I went with a different clinic. DO NOT TRUST THIS CLINIC.

Words cannot fully express my gratitude to Dr. Steven Young and the incredible team at Duke Fertility. After two unsuccessful IVF cycles at another clinic and being rejected by numerous doctors who believed my case was hopeless, I found Dr. Young, who gave me a chance when no one else would. From the very first consultation, I felt supported, understood, and, for the first time in years, truly hopeful. Dr. Young went above and beyond, dedicating himself to understanding my unique situation and conducting extensive research to create a personalized plan. His expertise, determination, and compassionate care turned what once felt like an impossible dream into reality. Today, I am thrilled to share that I have a 3-month-old baby, and it is all thanks to his dedication and brilliance. The entire team at Duke Fertility deserves immense praise as well. Every staff member I encountered treated me with kindness, professionalism, and respect. The clinic’s environment was warm and welcoming, and I always felt like I was in the best hands. From the nurses to the administrative staff, everyone worked together to make this journey a positive and memorable experience. Dr. Young and the team at Duke Fertility have truly changed my life, and I will forever be grateful for their unwavering support and commitment to helping me achieve my dream of becoming a parent. If you are searching for a fertility clinic that will fight for you and treat you like family, I cannot recommend Duke Fertility enough. They are miracle workers, and I am eternally thankful for everything they have done for me and my family.

I’ve had such a wonderful experience with Duke Fertility Center. Dr. Sarah Moustafa is incredibly knowledgeable, empathetic, and has an exceptional bedside manner. She takes the time to explain every step and never makes you feel rushed, overwhelmed or cold. The nurses and staff have also been amazing, welcoming, supportive, and consistently kind throughout the entire process. A special shout out to Rosemarie who has received me at my best and worst. From scheduling to monitoring, medication guidance through retrieval. I’ve felt cared for and confident in the team every step of the way. I take none of this for grated. I’m deeply grateful for the professionalism, warmth, teamwork and expertise at Duke Fertility, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone navigating fertility care. Thank you.

We're early in our fertility journey, but after an awful experience with another local center, we switched to Duke, and I'm so glad we did. The admin and nursing staff are incredibly kind and responsive, answering all of my questions and helping us feel comfortable and confident with the process. The intro meeting with our doctor was also very helpful and informative. And we've had specific conversations on pricing as well. Nothing is in the dark (as it was with the *other* place). We feel like we're in good, capable hands at Duke Fertility. Thank you all!

What are the IVF success rates at Duke Fertility Center? expand_more
Duke Fertility Center reports that its live‑birth rates for in vitro fertilization (IVF) exceed the national average, based on the most recent 2023 data submitted to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART). The clinic highlights two key outcomes from that year: the proportion of egg retrievals that produce at least one embryo suitable for transfer or freezing, and the likelihood that a transferred embryo results in a live birth. While exact percentages are not disclosed in the public summary, the statement that live‑birth rates are higher than the national benchmark (approximately 30% per cycle) indicates a strong performance. These results reflect Duke’s advanced laboratory protocols, personalized treatment plans, and the expertise of its reproductive endocrinologists and embryology team.
Does Duke Fertility Center provide fertility treatment for same-sex couples? expand_more
Duke Fertility Center offers inclusive fertility care for same‑sex couples, encompassing both lesbian and gay partnerships. The clinic’s LGBTQ+ fertility options include reciprocal IVF for female couples, where one partner provides the eggs and the other carries the pregnancy, as well as sperm donation, egg donation, and gestational carrier coordination for male couples. Dedicated reproductive endocrinologists work with each couple to develop a personalized treatment plan that respects their family‑building goals, and the center provides legal guidance, psychological counseling, and support for navigating parental rights. By integrating cutting‑edge assisted reproduction techniques with a welcoming environment, Duke ensures that same‑sex couples receive the same high‑quality IVF and related services as any other patients.
What IVF laboratory technology does Duke Fertility Center use? expand_more
Duke Fertility Center’s IVF laboratory employs the RI Witness platform, an advanced radio‑frequency identification (RFID) system that electronically tracks every specimen and embryo throughout the assisted reproduction process. Each sample receives a unique RFID tag that links to a patient‑specific card, allowing real‑time verification of specimen identity at every handling step. The system automatically records staff interactions, alerts users to mismatches, and logs compliance with laboratory protocols, dramatically reducing human error. In addition to RFID, the lab follows stringent quality‑control standards and is staffed by certified embryologists who use time‑lapse imaging and culture incubators to optimize embryo development. This technology enhances safety, accuracy, and overall success rates for IVF and related fertility treatments.
What fertility treatments and services does Duke Fertility Center offer? expand_more
Duke Fertility Center provides a comprehensive suite of assisted reproduction services designed to meet diverse family‑building goals. Core offerings include traditional in vitro fertilization (IVF) with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) when needed, and intrauterine insemination (IUI) for less complex cases. The clinic runs a robust egg donation program that uses fresh donor eggs, and it also supports donor‑sperm and embryo donation. Specialized services for LGBTQ+ families encompass reciprocal IVF for female couples, gestational carrier coordination, and hormone‑friendly protocols for transgender patients. Male infertility is addressed through surgical sperm retrieval and advanced semen analysis, while fertility preservation options such as egg and embryo freezing are available for cancer patients or anyone wishing to delay childbearing. Psychological counseling, insurance navigation, and financing plans round out the patient‑centered care model.

Duke Fertility Center has been a nationwide leader in reproductive medicine for more than 25 years, supporting tens of thousands of families across the United States. Founded as part of Duke Health’s commitment to comprehensive women's health, the clinic has grown from a modest infertility practice to a full‑service fertility center offering IVF, egg donation, LGBTQ+ fertility options, male infertility treatment, and psychological support. Over its history, Duke has earned accreditation from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) and consistently publishes outcomes that exceed national benchmarks. The clinic’s service menu lists “single men and women who are trying to conceive” alongside its broader offerings, and its LGBTQ+ fertility options include tailored protocols for solo mothers. Single patients can access the full range of assisted reproduction services, including IVF, IUI, egg donation, and fertility preservation, with individualized counseling to address unique emotional and logistical considerations. Dedicated nurse navigators and psychological support staff help single women plan their treatment timelines, understand insurance coverage, and navigate any legal or ethical aspects of using donor gametes or gestational carriers.
Does Duke Fertility Center offer egg donation for IVF treatment? expand_more
Yes, Duke Fertility Center provides a full egg donation program for IVF cycles. The clinic works exclusively with fresh donor eggs, meaning the donor’s eggs are retrieved and fertilized in the laboratory on the same day they are needed for the recipient’s embryo transfer, eliminating the uncertainties associated with frozen‑thawed eggs. Prospective donors undergo a thorough prescreening process, including health assessments and psychological evaluation, and are compensated $7,500 per completed donation. Recipients can review donor profiles, select a match, and coordinate timing so that the donor’s eggs are synchronized with the recipient’s uterine lining. The program also offers support from nurse navigators and fertility counselors to guide both donors and recipients through each step of the process.
