What to watch out for at Conceptions Reproductive Associates of Colorado?

  • warning Billing & Insurance Challenges

Patients repeatedly mention confusing invoices, unexpected collections notices, and delayed insurance authorizations. Some reports detail 300% storage cost increases and bills sent to collections despite prior payments.

  • warning Communication Delays

Several individuals experienced long waits for test results, unanswered messages, and missed follow‑up calls. One case noted a month‑long delay in portal updates, leaving patients without guidance on next steps.

  • warning Aggressive IVF Promotion

The clinic’s policy of recommending IUI or IVF for most cases has been described as pushy, with doctors steering patients toward invasive procedures even when they expressed interest in alternative options. This approach has left some patients feeling pressured and unheard.

  • warning Inconsistent Staff Empathy

While many nurses receive praise, certain staff members, such as RN Lauren Moran and Dr. Cheng, have been reported as lacking compassion or providing abrupt, uncomfortable interactions during procedures.

  • warning Limited Support for Non‑IVF Cases

Patients seeking medication prescriptions or guidance without pursuing IVF report being turned away or receiving vague answers. The clinic’s policy of only providing drugs for invasive cycles restricts care for those exploring less intensive options.

I have mulled over this review for months. Overall, my experience was not good. I appreciate the lead nurse and regional finance manager taking the time to sit down with me to discuss my concerns after I walked away days before my retrieval cycle was supposed to start. My experience was really a 1-star, but the fact that the team listened made me hopeful with a 2-star review. My diagnostic phase was rough. We got pregnant naturally during that time and unfortunately miscarried twice, which extended the diagnostic phase. My nurse was incredibly supportive. She celebrated my pregnancies and mourned my losses with me. I felt cared for on the diagnostic side until I was handed off to the IVF team. Financially, everything was off from the beginning. I was quoted incorrect insurance coverage, pre-authorizations were often not submitted, and I eventually learned that I could start them myself, which is the only reason some were processed at all. The last straw was being billed for TESE instead of TESA, which is how I discovered my wishes were not being honored medically. The communication between Conceptions and their recommended urologists was poor. Their list even included a practice that had been sued and filed for bankruptcy a year before we received it. When we spoke directly with the urologist, we clearly agreed to TESA. Somehow, every time that plan reached Conceptions, it turned into TESE, which is more invasive and more expensive. The burden was always on us to fix the confusion. We met with the urologist again to clarify, and Conceptions still documented TESE and would not acknowledge that we only consented to TESA. For context, my son is an IVF baby from a time when my husband's sperm counts were worse, and ejaculated sperm worked fine. This push for TESE made no sense. Every time I asked about staying with the less invasive option, I was brushed off with “trust the MDs,” “we don’t do the male side,” or “we do TESEs all the time.” It felt like we did not have informed consent because any time I asked about options I was told to defer. The only time I was told “you have a choice” was when I said I was walking away. My trust in Dr. Bush himself was not the issue. He is brilliant and widely published. But somewhere between the clinic operations and the RMA partnership, something seems to have gone wrong. I spent about 80 hours on the phone with insurance over 3 months on top of a full time job. Conceptions ended up being more stressful than it needed to be. I left not trusting that the medical team would respect my wishes, more educated on billing codes, NPIs, and pre-authorization practices than I ever needed to be, and frustrated with the level of care. At the next clinic, clinical tests showed my husband's fragmentation rate was 3 percent, which is ideal and not requiring TESA or TESE. At retrieval, we used ejaculated sperm with ICSI. Of 8 mature eggs, 100 percent fertilized. All that advocating for ourselves, and it turns out we were right. I am not going to tell you to stay away or go elsewhere. I am simply going to say that if you choose Conceptions, be ready to advocate for yourself. Advocate for your wants medically. Know your insurance benefits. Hold them accountable for pre-authorizations. They are the professionals, but risk is still your choice. You get a say. I know fertility is a rough journey, and many of us are desperate by the time we get here, but do not let that desperation push you into choices you are not comfortable making. Persistence makes parents. If you are reading this, take care of yourself. Put your oxygen mask on first.

Negative experience with the IVF clinic staff, lacking empathy and kindness. They use a passive communication system. The Littleton clinic seems to have better staff.

STAY FAR AWAY!!! This clinic will without a doubt treat you as a dollar sign, not a human. One of their attending RNs, Lauren Moran, lacks the basic empathy, kindness, and understanding to get you through the process without difficulty. Expect passive messages via their messaging system without any sort of curtesy call to explain or provide context on the testing needs/updates/cost/etc. Do better. On the other hand, the Littleton clinic seems to have figured it out!! If you can, please do yourself a favor and go see Shari, Hannah and Katie in Littleton. They actually know what they’re doing and have the kindness you’d expect when dealing with the complexities of fertility.

Amazing fertility clinic. Dr. Bush is incredibly knowledgeable and up to date on the latest fertility research, which gave us confidence throughout the entire process. He took the time to explain every step of the process, ensuring we fully understood what to expect. The nurses were equally fantastic, compassionate, patient, and always ready to answer our questions. The entire medical team made the journey a lot more manageable with their professionalism and support. Thank you Dr. Bush and his amazing team!!!
