What to watch out for at Columbia Fertility Associates?

Front‑desk staff are frequently described as combative, condescending, and unhelpful. Calls and appointment requests often go unanswered, and patients report being ignored in the waiting area.

  • warning Billing and Insurance Errors

Numerous accounts detail unexpected charges, denied insurance claims, and delayed refunds. Patients cite $400‑$7,000 surprise bills, incorrect billing for services already covered, and allegations of billing fraud.

  • warning Communication Breakdowns

Lab results, prescription orders, and appointment confirmations are often delayed or lost. Patients experience repeated follow‑ups for the same issue, and some report missed calls, double‑booked appointments, and lack of portal access.

  • warning Administrative Disorganization

Scheduling errors, long wait times (often 30‑60 minutes), misplaced patient records, and a reported HIPAA breach via the patient portal illustrate systemic inefficiencies that undermine the clinical care provided.

Columbia Fertility associates changed my life. Their principal, Dr. Preston Sacks, took me in as a much older patient when the majority of other clinics would’ve declined me outright, largely because, I imagine , they don’t want to risk older patients from lowering their success rate averages. Somehow Columbia Fertility made it feel almost as easy as routine medical treatment instead of something difficult and specialized. I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful , full-term baby and I really don’t think it would’ve happened without Columbia Fertility and especially Dr. Sacks. If anyone is having fertility difficulty at other clinics or is being rejected at clinics, don’t wait, talk to Dr. Sacks. He changed my life. The only thing I would definitely change from my experience is much better communication from the front office and patient coordination staff. The coordinating with the staff was very often difficult but frankly I have experienced that at every single medical office I’ve ever gone to in my life. It definitely never became a dealbreaker, and for me getting the outcome that I wanted was far more important than having a perfectly smooth Office experience.

Disappointing IVF clinic experience with poor communication. Initial consultation cost $405. Long wait time for phone calls.

We were looking at multiple fertility clinics in the area when we decided to have our second one, and this one didn't make the cut. Right away they muddled up the details of my wife's appointment, so we decided to pass. Moreover, unlike the clinic we chose to work with, which just charged a reasonable amount up-front, CFA workers didn't provide us with any information about the price of the initial (Zoom) consultation costs: they just told us they will charge our insurance and that we shouldn't worry about it. The claim was denied for unknown reasons -- and we got slapped with a $405 bill two months after the fact -- for a 30 minute measly Zoom call, which wasn't even with the doctor herself. Then I spent a whole week and 5-6 phone calls trying to get the person responsible for the account to call me back -- which she never did.

My initial visit with the doctor was good, however I have never had a worse customer service experience than with Columbia fertility associates. I can never get an answer on the phone or messages. I strongly recommend that you go somewhere else for treatment.
