What to watch out for at Southwest Fertility Center?
- Communication Issues
While many have praised the staff's attention and care, there have been concerns regarding communication, particularly related to billing practices and responsiveness at times. Some patients reported difficulty reaching staff and felt that their inquiries were not prioritized. - Billing Challenges
Several reviews mention complications surrounding billing practices, with complaints about how financial issues were handled. Some patients found the explanations regarding coverage and costs to be somewhat lacking, which added stress to an already challenging experience. - Variability in Treatment Experiences
A few patients shared negative experiences that differed significantly from the majority, feeling that they were treated as just another procedure rather than as individuals. These stories highlight a need for consistent care across all patients and treatments. - Pressure Towards IVF
Some reviews indicate a sense of pressure towards opting for IVF rather than exploring other fertility options first. Patients felt that their comfort levels and preferences were sometimes overlooked in favor of more aggressive treatment approaches. - Mixed Feedback on Doctor Engagement
While Dr. Gunnala is praised for his bedside manner, a handful of reviews expressed disappointment with overall engagement during consultations. A few patients felt rushed during discussions, wishing for more personalized attention regarding their unique situations.
10 latest reviews of Southwest Fertility Center
We initially had an online appointment with a doctor or nurse practitioner at Southwest Fertility Center, and they were very nice. Based on that experience, we were convinced to go in person for an exam.
However, when my husband and I arrived at the clinic, we signed in on a sign-in sheet, and there were multiple staff members working at the front desk. Immediately after we signed in, the receptionist closed the front desk window without saying a word to us—no greeting, no instructions, nothing.
We sat down and continued waiting, expecting some communication. No one spoke to us or updated us on our appointment status. Another couple arrived after us, yet they were seen before us while we were still ignored. After waiting for over 30 minutes with no explanation, my husband tried asking the receptionist what was going on, but we were completely disregarded. Feeling disrespected and frustrated, we decided to leave.
Then, about an hour after we had already left, they suddenly called me—but at that point, the damage was done.
Now, I am receiving a bill for $41.33 with no clear explanation of what I am being charged for. We only attended one online session, which should have been covered by my insurance. I did not receive full service during the in-person visit, and I demand that these charges be removed from my account.
To make matters worse, I have tried contacting the clinic by phone multiple times, and no one has answered.
I do not recommend going to this clinic—especially if you are Mexican like myself. I strongly believe that discrimination played a role in how we were treated, as I have unfortunately experienced similar situations while living in Arizona. It is unacceptable that this kind of behavior is allowed to continue.
I don’t know where to start from, coming from a mother who lost her child due to an ultra rare genetic disease to almost losing hope in having a healthy baby due to limited genetic testing, we found Dr. Gunnala. During our first consultation with Dr. Gunnala he explained thoroughly all the necessary genetic testing needed to eliminate the embryos at risk, and select the healthy ones. He made the IVF process starting from the Egg retrieval cycles to the embryo transfer super easy and was available to answer all of our questions and concerns throughout the entire journey. Today I am 13 weeks pregnant, thank you Dr. Gunnala and thank you Southwest fertility center for the amazing patient care. Fadi and I greatly appreciate it
I called to get help about billing and the billing person Karla (yes I am name dropping because why wouldn’t you be professional) put the phone down without answering and doesn’t say hi or anything. All I hear is she goes back to gossiping with her coworkers about a patient. Yes a patient at the clinic and I heard things about her. Then she finally comes to the phone im asking questions and all she does is say yeah idk idk idk. I will not be choosing this clinic because what if they gossip about me as well. Highly unprofessional
For anybody that has had fertility struggles and has had to seek the care of a fertility specialist, you know first hand how exhausting both physically and emotionally the process is (on top of the incredible expense). I first went to SW fertility where I had 2 failed IUI transfers. Without getting into too much detail, for insurance reasons I choose to go to a different fertility center for my first round of IVF so I could have the chance of using at least some of my insurance benefits as SW fertility was out of network with my particular insurance at the time. While even though it was 2023 at that time, this “recommended” center still followed COVID protocols and wouldn’t let my wife come back for any of my many ultrasound appointments or the eventual egg retrieval. When I woke up from my egg retrieval procedure and found out how few eggs my doctor was able to retrieve after my cycle, I just cried alone in the PACU. I was rolled out to the car where she was made to wait for me with tears streaming down my face knowing my chances for a successful embryo were severely unlikely/limited. Unfortunately I was not wrong. The few eggs that fertilized never progressed to embryos so we were left with nothing from our first cycle. Now me not having a good egg count/retrieval was not the fault of the other practice’s physicians/treatment. However, being forced to go through that whole process alone was and was incredibly lonely especially when faced with a failed cycle. Unfortunately I felt like just a number there…like they truly didn’t care about me. I won’t even get into the other center’s billing practice (but we are still fighting issues to this day about reimbursement they received from my insurance while still charging and collecting cash from me).
Either way, needless to say I choose to return back to SW fertility for these reasons for my 2nd IVF cycle attempt despite still having some leftover insurance benefits to use (although little). My second experience couldn’t have been more different from the first. I worked mainly with Dr. Vinay Gunnala and his nursing staff, and not a single time did I feel rushed or not cared for. He took extra time with me when needed and certainly went above and beyond in making sure I was ok and comfortable with every step along the way. My wife joined every single appointment no matter how small which helped her be closer to me throughout the process. Thanks to Dr. Gunnala and SW fertility, I am now 23 weeks pregnant and expecting a healthy baby girl come March at 40 years old. I could not give a higher recommendation to Dr. Gunnala and SW fertility center. Choose them. You won’t be sorry.
I could never put into words how wonderful the team at SWFC are. They literally saved my life. Dr Gunnala found my ovarian cancer and then after I was able to get treatment in time, they later connected me to an egg donor and surrogate and now I’m cancer free with a beautiful one year old girl! They are miracle workers
It took 6 years of surgeries, IUI and IVF to finally get our miracle and going to Southwest Fertility made it all possible. Doctor after doctor ignored my concerns about having endometriosis and the first appt with Dr Gunnala made me feel like I was in the right place and someone finally understood and agreed with me. The team was there with us every step of the way and never gave up on us. They always had the best attitude and made us feel at home. I would recommend them to anyone and will be back to try for siblings!
Whole heartedly I can recommend Southwest Fertility and Doctor Vinay Gunnala. Dr Gunnala and the team at Southwest Fertility Center were incredible. The moment we stepped into their office we were greeted with warmth and positivity. We were apprehensive at first due to a poor experience with another fertility clinic in the past ,but Southwest quickly put those fears to rest by providing a detailed step by step program that ultimately led to our little miracle. Dr Gunnala consistently set and explained expectations for every step of the process and was constantly reminding and reassuring that we were doing everything we could. Dr Gunnala and the staff truly made us feel like we were family as we went through each step. The process of IVF is very physically and emotionally tough but they made our journey as comfortable as possible. After a decade of us trying to get pregnant, we had a successful IVF on the first attempt. We plan on going to them again for our next baby. Thank you everyone at southwest fertility
My wife and I started our IVF journey here in 2023 and could not have made a better decision. We knew once we met our care team that we were in amazing hands. After IVF round 2 1 year later, we found out we were pregnant with our first baby 🤍 The staff made us feel like family, truly amazing people. Dr. Vinay Gunnala made it possible for us and we will forever be grateful for him and his wonderful nurses!
Is 10 stars an option? As I write this I am 30 weeks pregnant …. And so grateful for Dr. Gunnala and his entire staff at Southwest Fertility. My husband and I tried for years to get pregnant on our own but nothing was working …. When we finally made the decision to get help I was terrified. For one I have a hard time in general with doctors and two because I am deathly afraid of needles…. and blood draws… and all I really knew about IVF was that it involved a lot of them. From my first meeting with Dr. Gunnala I could tell he legitimately cared about my fears , he really listened and took me seriously. He helped me make a plan that I was comfortable with, and he gave me hope that I could do it. We decided to start with IUIs to see if it would work and ease me into the whole world of fertility. When I had my first blood draw I was a mess …and when I say half the office came in to help I really mean that. They all stopped what they were doing to literally hold my hand to cheer me on and to see me through it. When the IUIs didn’t work for me and we decided to move on to IVF I truly felt like I had the entire office cheering me on. They helped me believe in myself and the process even on the days I couldn’t. I ended up doing three rounds of IVF … and Dr, Gunnala after every round took the time to explain everything to me. I’ve honestly never met a more patient and kind doctor. After my third round I had 3 healthy embryos and was ready to try for a transfer….And it worked!!!!! I have so much love in my heart for everyone at that office. Shelley who gave me so much confidence and treated me with so much kindness, respect and love , Yvonne ( both of them for always being there to hold my hand) Fran at the front desk who would make little signs and cards for me when I would finish a blood draw, Agatha, Malissa, Tara, Janet, Norma … the whole team of embryologists…im grateful for everyone that works in that office. I’m not just saying this …I couldn’t have done any of this and wouldnt be sitting here 30weeks pregnant without each and everyone of them …. If you are trying to choose a fertility clinic…. You will be so happy you chose this one!!! Seriously they are the best. I could go on for days about how amazing they are …They are forever my family and gave me the gift of a lifetime. Thank you SWFC!!!!
My wife and I were told after our third round of IVF at a different fertility center that we were throwing our money away, which was at least blunt and honest, but it was pretty soul crushing. My wife decided to give it another try with a holistic approach, and through the help of Danielle Lewis and her referral to this wonderful center, we are expecting Baby Berger on November 10th after round 4. Will IVF work for you? I have no idea, not everyone has the ability to go through that many rounds. Will this place treat you with love, respect, and handle the process in a professional manner? Absolutely. I also expect a good referral on our upcoming daughter’s Harvard college application and a lot of hot sauce purchases in return.
