Be very careful when it comes to donations! The nurses were wonderful, but that was the end of it. We did an IVF cycle, during which they overstimulated me to the point where I couldn't walk due to the amount of fluid in my belly—completely unnecessary pain. Because of this, they froze my embryos and made me wait another month. On top of that, they completely ignored a large fibroid I had, which later caused me a lot of problems with the (natural) pregnancy. They gave me vaginal progesterone without telling me that it wouldn't resolve completely, which resulted in the difficult task of having to remove all the residue after a few days. The cycle didn't result in pregnancy, so I don't blame them. But what happened next was the final straw! Two years after I moved to the US, I received an email saying I had two days to renounce the frozen embryos in writing, or they could use them for whatever they saw fit—including a transplant. 1- During the COVID era, international mail didn't work as quickly, and any letter would be held up in customs for weeks. 2- I told them to use them for scientific research or to throw them away, since in the meantime, I've been diagnosed with several serious hereditary diseases that I could have passed on to those embryos. So, ethically, it wasn't fair to give them to another mother and cross my fingers that she'd have a more or less healthy child. The center's response was that if I didn't give them my medical records, they wouldn't trust the information. I don't know to what extent they could have asked me for it, but it certainly should have been the other way around. I don't even know if it's legal. I ended up sending them my paperwork by mail and never heard anything again. It's quite possible that there's a child of mine out there with health problems, because I wouldn't trust this center one bit!
