What to watch out for at Briarwood Center for Reproductive Medicine?
- 5 negatives of the clinic
1. **Long Wait Times**: A common complaint involves extended wait times for follow-up appointments, with certain patients reporting waits of several months for returning visits. This can be particularly frustrating given the time-sensitive nature of fertility treatments. 2. **Administrative Confusion**: Many reviews mention issues with scheduling appointments or unclear information from the front desk staff. This has led to miscommunications regarding critical tests or procedures, causing additional stress for patients. 3. **Lack of Personalized Care**: Patients have expressed concern over having multiple doctors and interns involved in their care, leading to feelings of being just a number rather than a unique patient with individual needs. This rotating system can create inconsistencies in treatment plans. 4. **Billing Issues**: Some patients reported problems with billing and insurance pre-authorization. Mismanagement of these processes can lead to unexpected charges, creating a sense of distrust regarding financial dealings with the clinic. 5. **Insensitivity to Emotions**: A few patients have felt that some staff members, particularly in administrative roles, were not empathetic to the emotional and psychological challenges tied to infertility, which can lead to feelings of neglect during sensitive times.

I would avoid this location unless you have plenty of time to wait for a doctor to see you for even your second visit. They see new patients in a week but they want you to wait 5 months for a returning visit.
I just had a failed transfer while using this clinic. I feel like they don’t listen to your perspective and just do whatever they want all while you pay the price. My egg retrieval was 10,000$ and I had 17 follicles measuring. Only got 2 eggs retrieved. I went in for my transfer and I was concerned about my hormone levels and asked if they could draw some blood. Typically my body doesn’t respond straight away to hormone therapy. I got they don’t typically do that and I was just disregarded. 9 days later my HCG came back as not pregnant and I got a message through the portal saying sorry you’re not pregnant. Your appointment is in January with the doctor. Almost 3 months later. I feel like all they care about is my money.
I’m surprised by so many negative reviews and that prompted me to post. My husband and I had a successful IVF process through this clinic and the docs and nurses are kind, knowledgeable, and professional. I was always treated with dignity and respect. We started fertility treatments at a private clinic in Ann Arbor and switched to UM for IVF because we had better insurance coverage with them. No regrets. They are great.
I wouldn’t recommend this clinic. My first visit with Dr. Menke went fine, and she ordered a bunch of pre-tests. But after I did all the tests, I was told I’d have to wait five months for a follow-up appointment.
The HSG test was really uncomfortable, cost $3,000, and is only valid for a year. Some other tests are only good for six months. With infertility treatments being so time-sensitive and my age affecting my chances, waiting months between appointments isn’t practical or affordable.
As an infertility clinic, they should prioritize patients’ time better. They really need to improve their scheduling so that returning patients can get follow-ups and treatments in a timely manner.
I’m really surprised by the reviews. The staff here has been super amazing and supportive of my husband and i’s first ivf journey. Not every medical professional specializes in fertility. This clinic is constantly busy because so many people from surrounding states and Michigan come here. The staff busts their butts and work really hard. My nursing team is amazing and has been very understanding of this being my first time with ivf. My husband has been a patient of u of m for over 10 years now. I’ve just begun this upcoming year. The clinic is very clean. The receptionists are very kind and helpful. When I had my first procedure they made sure to walk me through and made sure I felt comfortable and safe.
For all the uncertainty unknown and fear ivf can bring this staff has been very supportive with my journey so far. I highly recommend
Nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Schon. Her professionalism, expertise, care and compassion have made this incredibly challenging process full of hope and heartbreak more tolerable. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone undergoing this journey. And so much love to the nurses who treated us with extra compassion after our two miscarriages. Thank you for all you do.
